The Pere Marquette Rail Trail is one of the highest rated rail-to-trail conversions in the U.S. It stretches over 30 miles from Clare through Midland, and is completely paved. There are convenience stations, restaurants and points of interest along the way.

Once in Clare, it is an easy 1.5 miles West to the trail head for the Pere Marquette State Trail at the Moose Lodge on M-115. The State Trail heads west 55 miles through Farwell, Evart and Reed City to Baldwin. The trail system is paved from Midland to Reed City.
